Karndean Flooring

On this particular job, the kitchen floor was bare concrete, recently completed after having an extension built by Four Corners Property.  Further to this we were asked to take care of the flooring requirements here, namely Karndean Knight Tile to the hallway and kitchen areas.

flooringAny vinyl strips to be laid on suspended flooring must have a sub-layer of ply tacked or screw fixed to the floorboards, with the ply joints feathered in with Arditex self levelling compound if necessary.  These joints are also rubbed back with a carbide brick to give as smooth a base as possible to then lay the Karndean on to.  The same adhesive is then used on both floor bases to bond the Karndean securely in place.

Karndean vinylOnce we have the ply fixed to the floorboards and the self levelling compound has set and been rubbed back, we are then ready to lay your Karndean Vinyl Flooring.  Follow this link to see various samples and patterns from the Karndean Vinyl Flooring Range.  Using a centre line, the adhesive is applied to the sub-surface evenly in sections to take the floor planks.  Each strip is laid to give a tight finish to the next, resulting in a superior floor finish which is much more durable and hard-wearing than laminate, for example.  Another benefit of Karndean is that if an individual strip or tile is somehow damaged, it is easily removed by your fitter and replaced with a new plank.  To replace a chipped laminate floor section would mean removing all the pieces of floor up to the damaged piece to remove it and replace it with new, which is a much bigger job.

Flooring can be laid to any pattern, with straight runs in parallell to any wall, or at 45 degrees, or straight borders with the inner area at 45 degrees.  Feature strips can be inserted to break up the area, or be used as the boundary between a 90 degree section to a 45 degree section.
