Bournemouth Builder Website Update

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

A big thanks to the webcredible site for info on creating rounded boxes using CSS  - the homepage of our Bournemouth Builder website is now updated and on it’s way to looking just the way I want it, with much less markup than our Bournemouth Builder Portfolio page - this I will update next time I wake up at 430am and decide I need to do something!

Bizarre Bath - Recommended

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

On our visit to Bath in April, we stumbled across something brilliant to do.  Quite by chance my wife came across a leaflet for Bizarre Bath - The Comedy Walk.  Having had a bit of a disaster booking the accommodation and the entertainment myself (guest house I booked aka Fawlty Towers, and both of us fell asleep half way through the show I’d booked…) I decided it would be a great idea to go with my wife’s idea.

Really glad we did too - the Bizarre Bath Comedy Walk really does do what it says on the tin - it’s rib-crackingly funny, bizarre and worth every penny of the 8 quid each we paid to tag along and become part of the mayhem.

The ‘tour guide’ (let’s be honest, he must be a very professional stand up artist posing as a tour guide) brilliantly weaves a show from the sights and sounds, buildings, streets and waterways, dragging in on-lookers and creating a big bubble which you all nearly forget you’re in.

I’d give it a 10/10 rating and would recommend it to anyone with a sense of humour looking for something a bit different to the run of the mill tourist attractions!

New Forest Builder

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Well, that’s a good start -

We’ve made a few modifications to the New Forest Builder page on my work website - now it definitely looks better and gives a good idea of the sort of work we can carry out for clients in and around the New Forest area including Lymington, Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. We’ve got pictures of the cladding, 1st & 2nd fix carpentry, rendering, plastering, decking and roofing for anyone who needs a look

I’ve added in a few pics there, and Karl’s been bashing away at the work blog too which gives us a bit more content. It’s a bit like the ever-expanding-website. The more things you do, the more you realise

Saturday Night Super Supper Sandwich

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

The sandwich.  Check out this little beauty…..mmmmmm.  A combination of my wife’s home-baked walnut and sultana bread rolls, toasted, with melted cheese, grilled red peppers, houmus, cucumber and black pepper…banging.

Saturday Night Super Supper Sandwich

The Train Station Noodle Bar, Bournemouth.

The Train Station Noodle Bar, Bournemouth.

Every time we go, I always leave feeling happy about what I’ve eaten. And we’ve eaten there a lot - must be at least once a week over the last few years. The noodles and rice there are superb and each dish I’ve tried has been magic. The noodles are home made in house….mmmmm.

I love to try new stuff there but we generally have a few favourites, usually something like -

Starter

Fried Prawn Maki and Plum Sauce, (California Maki are good with lots of Wasabi), maybe some Spicy Cold Beef with Cucumber, maybe some Spicy Cold Duck with Cucumber.

Main

Then moving on to Taiwanese Spicy Beef Noodle, or Korean Kimchi (with rice or noodles). One of my all-time favourites at The Noodle Bar is ‘Ba Bao Lia Jian Fan’ (think that’s about the right Pinyin spelling) - which means ‘Eight Treasures With Rice’ I think. Man, that stuff has got me hooked I swear. There is a constant internal battle being waged within, with one part of me longing to try new stuff at the Noodle Bar, with the other part desperate for another bowl of Ba Bao! It’s really good stuff.

All types of dishes are served here - Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, Malaysian, basically most types of Asian food that I can think of, and all done to a very, very good standard. I haven’t found a better Asian food restaurant in Bournemouth or Poole yet!

If you are looking to eat out, and would rather eat really good food than pay for an expensive refurb job (I’m personally talking about Wagamama in Bournemouth here - disappointing food when compared to the Noodle Bar) then this could be for you. It’s a little gem for food, I give it 10 out of 10, and that’s about the only place in Bournemouth that gets a 10 for food off me!

Oh - I forgot about the dumplings - not sure what they are called yet, but they’re little semi-circular parcels with beef/pork in them I think, and ask for the spicy sauce to go with them…..my mouth is watering.  I’ll ask the owner what they’re called next time and write back if I can.

Good Food & Funky Atmosphere - BoscaNova, Boscombe

Cafe BoscaNova - Boscombe

Great little menu, gorgeous Granola, local produce, helpful staff and an individual style to the decor makes this a great little cafe for a bit of brekky, spot of lunch, or just meeting up with good friends to catch up over a coffee.  Interesting choice of tunes playing in the background too - well recommended!

Plumber, Bournemouth

Bournemouth Plumber

We just completed work for a House of Multiple occupancy, carrying out an installation for 7 basins and one electric water heater, with new end feed copper and solder joint pipework for hot and cold feeds, and 32mm / 40mm polypipe for the wastes.  Local firm Plumb Centre in Christchurch was used for most materials sourcing.  Our client was very happy indeed, providing us with a plumber reference to add to our other recommendations and testimonials on our site.

Okay, I’ve done as much as I’ll do for a bit on the snowboarding trip to Schladming now, maybe I’ll add a few more pics, or the vids when I can get them to either work or upload to You Tube…
